Commercial - Fair Trade
September 18, 2015
I had so much fun photographing an event for Fair Trade recently. Hawkshead primary school in the Lake District is a Fair Trade school and offered to host a 'Big Breakfast’ event to raise awareness ahead of Fair Trade fortnight in February.
The children were asked to come into school extra early, wearing pyjamas and bringing their favourite ted with them. There was a lot of excitement as the class sat down to a breakfast of fair trade products. Bananas, toast with Fair Trade jam and marmalade, followed by fair-trade orange juice and hot chocolate! What a feast!
After breakfast there were lots of activities for the children to begin which helped them to understand what it means to be a Fair Trade farmer and and how it can help people to earn a fair wage for their crops to enable them to look after and feed their own families.
At break time the children bought drinks and snacks from the fair trade tuck shop and even the staffroom is full of fair trade goodies!
I also snuck into the kitchen to visit the lovely school cook who was busy preparing more Fair Trade ingredients to make a hot banana sponge pudding for lunch time, yum!
